How can you only be half of a sprite?

Cause that's how it works - you got the option a' throwin' in a second thing to your sprite to make it somethin' else, so if you'd your momsprite an' threw in...I dunno, a purrbeast or somethin', it'd be half that an' half your ancestor.

You shouldn't though, since it makes the game harder, but you could. We didn't when we played way back when.
